Miss Roberts if You're Nasty

The photos here are from the March, 2005 production of Miss Roberts if You're Nasty at the Fault Line Theatre in San Diego. The reviews are below.

It also had a production at North Park Vaudeville Theatre in September, 2005; and at Riverside Theatre in Iowa City, IA in October, 2005 during their Walking the Wire monologue festival.

Eric Gorman & me

Eric made an amazing, 7-foot-tall Barbie. I directed.

You've heard the rumors: she and Ken have broken up, she's responsible for young girls' eating disorders, she's a disproportionate bitch... now Barbie Millicent Roberts sets the record straight...

An Excerpt...

What I’m getting at is that I am a classic and collectors still want me with outrageous proportions because that is just who I am. If they want a doll with a mediocre body, they can buy Skipper. America loves me the way I am, whether they admit it or not. Yet it’s my fault if some idiotic thirteen-year-old hussy starves herself to death? Generations of women have grown up insecure about their appearances because of ME? Decades of therapy and failed romantic relationships are being blamed on A TOY?  Give me a fucking break, people. If you’re sitting there chowing down Trim Spa and shooting up Botox, trying to achieve my looks, than you have more than bad body image, you’re a moron. This is plastic, therefore not real. Even a five-year-old can figure that out.

Actress/Playwright Kristina Meek's Ms. Roberts If You're Nasty is a hoot! That's "Barbie" Roberts, played by a very tall Eric N. Gorman in drag, with a great wig and wearing four-and-a-half-inch heels. Meek has researched the Barbie legend extensively, creating a monolog that reflects the many facets of Barbie through the years. Did you know that Barbie, life size, would have measurements of 39-18-23? Meek scripted not only the Barbie history, but also the many negative influences Mattel's icon has had on girls. Gorman's performance is pure comedic delight.
